Mangiamo, recently reponed their location at 1033 Lake Drive SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers a sophisticated dining experience within a historic mansion setting that was built in 1873. MANGIAMOGR.COM The restaurant features intimate rooms with fireplaces, creating a warm and elegant ambiance. They said prior to opening they were updating the interior to be more swanky and cozier It is also a part of the Gilmore collection, a fine dining group of restaraunts in west Michigan.

My Wife and I, along with our son, recently dined at Mangiamo, located at 1033 Lake Drive SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which offers a sophisticated dining experience within a historic mansion setting. mangiamogr.com The restaurant features intimate rooms with fireplaces, creating a warm and elegant ambiance. In fact, our company had it’s a Christmas party here and we had to go back. It was so good.

First, let me mention that the service was outstanding. The team is top-notch. I wish I remembered our servers name, she was such a delight. What was truly remarkable is that they were extremely understaffed due to weather, it was busy, and still delivered incredible service. Kudos to Management and the entire crew.

The menu is incredible and offers a variety of Italian dishes, appetizers, salads, and entrees with a spotlight on steak. We loved the ARTICHOKE HEARTS; marinated and flash-fried, served with roasted garlic and dill aioli, are a delightful start. The KNIFE & FORK CAESAR salad, featuring torched artisan romaine, roasted garlic, tomatoes, parmesan cheese, croutons, and house Caesar dressing, is exceptional; the homemade dressing is among the best I’ve ever tasted. The WEDGE salad, with iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, haystack onions, prosciutto, and gorgonzola dressing, is equally impressive.

The CONCHIGLIE AL PESTO was an excellent choice for my wife for the main course, but quite filling. Plan on sharing or take some home like we did. It combined grilled chicken, sautéed shallots, roasted garlic, tomatoes, parmesan, roasted pine nuts, and a flavorful pesto pan sauce. The GOLD LABEL RIBEYE, a 12oz cut cooked to medium rare and accompanied by horseradish side sauce, is unbelievable. The BLACK LABEL KOBE HANGER, an 8oz portion, is also fantastic, my son said it was one of the best steaks he has had, and he is quite the experienced steak eater.

Side dishes like the PEBBLE CREEK MUSHROOM & TRUFFLE INFUSED BUTTER, TRUFFLED PARMESAN POTATOES, and BALSAMIC PARMESAN ASPARAGUS complement the main courses perfectly.

Desserts are a must-try, especially the CLASSIC AFFOGATO, featuring vanilla gelato with freshly brewed espresso (and I added Irish Cream), and the CHOCOLATE MOUSSE with berry sauce and bittersweet chocolate – absolutely to die for deserts with incredible presentation.

The service is top-notch, making guests feel like royalty. The staff’s kindness was just impressive; they even shared their secret Caesar dressing recipe upon request. I mean the whole recipe. Like they took a photo of recipe and shared it with me. I was blown away by that. Because you know we will play with that, put our spin on it and post it in our recipes. Martha Stewart, you have been Chopped!

While the prices were good, I generally felt the steaks to be a little overpriced for this venue. My Ribeye was enjoyable, but $72 was a bit much for what I experienced. For the 3 of us, with drinks, 1 app, 2 salads, and dessert, we rang up a bill over $450. So be prepared to pay for the experience. Would I do it again? Absolutely (without the ribeye, though).

Mangiamo is open daily from 4 PM to 10 PM, and it is best to get reservations but we were lucky to get in without them. I suggest calling ahead to inquire about immediate availability.
