Canyon Ranch spa at The Venetian/Palazzo is an oasis in the midst of the tempest that is Las Vegas. During our 5 night stay at The Palazzo, we twice visited – a personal training session for my travel mate, and facials on a separate day for both of us.
When booking a service, guests are able to use the facilitates on a come-and-go basis throughout the day of service. The spa requests check-in no later than 45 minutes prior to the scheduled service to allow time to change into a robe and be shown around the amenities. The spa areas are bathing suit optional. In light of the foregoing, photography is not allowed.
The property includes a full service spa offering massage, facials, scrubs, and other services, as well as a fitness center, two dining options (Canyon Ranch Grill and the Truth & Tonic Café), and a combination of co-ed and gender-segmented facilities. Men and women have separate locker rooms, showers, saunas, hot tubs, heated loungers, and Aquavana experience rooms. The latter includes the Crystal Steam Room, Experiential Rains, Herbal Laconium, Igloo, and Hydrospa. The co-ed area includes a conservatory, salt room, and wave room.
Upon checking in, we were advised to enjoy the facilities at our leisure and then proceed to the conservatory where our estheticians would meet us. As photography is not allowed, I left my phone in the locker room. That proved to be a mistake, as no clocks were visible throughout the spa area, and I completely lost track of time.
As for the amenities, we both favored the herbal laconium, a warm, comforting, lovely-scented cocoon. However, I would have appreciated loungers for this amenity instead of the hard stone cubbies that allowed for only rigid upright seating. This is an area where I would have lingered had the seating been more comfortable. I also enjoyed the Finnish sauna and salt room. We found the crystal steam room a bit too hot and steamy and difficult to breathe in, an experience I suspect shared by other spa-goers, as I noticed others exiting fairly quickly. Spa-goers also seemed to eschew the uncomfortably cool experiential rains — I did not see anyone use them during our 3+ hours on site. I popped into them briefly for purposes of this write-up and did not particularly enjoy being pelted with different pulses of cold water. I had a similar reaction to the igloo, though those who embrace cryotherapies might better enjoy those amenities. The limited number of heated loungers were fully occupied both before and after my facial, so I did not get to try those.
There were plentiful towels available, as well as stations with fruited ice waters. The showers included Canyon Ranch branded shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and eucalyptus mist — all of which I used and seemed to be of high quality, leaving both my skin and hair feeling hydrated. Also available were hair dryers and assorted toiletries so that guests could leave “street ready.”
As for the services we booked, our 80-minute age-defying facials were divine. We felt well cared for by our estheticians, Renata and Liz, who took the time to speak with us and assess our skin’s needs before customizing our treatments. My facial was relaxing and nourishing, providing exfoliation, gentle tool-based extractions, micro-current using a handheld device sold on the property (the PureLift), and various topicals. My companion underwent manual extractions which was a new experience for him. He felt a deep cleaning he had not experienced before leaving his face renewed and purifitied. He was shocked by the detailed work they did on problem areas that from day to day he thought were fine. It left him quite impressed with the attention to detail and care for every aspect of his face.
The treatment tables were heated, too much so for my friend’s comfort, who decided to forego the heated hand and foot mitts during his facial. We both enjoyed the mini arm, neck, and shoulder massages included as part of our treatment.
My friend was exceedingly impressed with the results of his facial, noting a significant reduction in certain stubborn wrinkles that he has been trying to tackle at home with OTC products. And speaking of products, my friend purchased several in the retail shop after the facial including and weekly exfoliation mask, lip balm, and a moisturizer.
The cost of each facial was $329 before tax, tips, and discounts. Note that the Venetian Rewards program provides a percentage discount on spa services (though not retail products), depending on your rewards level, starting at 10% for the lowest tier, Jade.
In Addition to the facial, my companion had personalized training scheduled for bright and early the first morning after arrival. His female instructor took time to evaluate his needs and progressed him through a full-body workout using exercise bands, free weights, and a few machines. She was extremely knowledgeable and took care to ask a lot of questions and continued to customize the workout on the fly to assist him in his goals and push him a bit further than he has generally been used to. It was a great experience and definitely worth the price at $99 for 50 minutes at the time of this review.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and some much-needed R&R. I would encourage anyone staying at The Venetian/Palazzo to make time for some self-care at Canyon Ranch. You can book online or call 702-414-3610.
I would not hesitate to book again and plan to do so next time I am in Vegas to explore their massages and other spa offerings.
